The NOSLINA Board of Directors announces 2010 Award Recipients PDF Print E-mail

Senator-Russ-FeingoldSenator Russ Feingold (D-WI), will receive the 2010 Special Distinguished NOSLINA Recognition Award for his exceptional and outstanding contribution to the welfare, development, peace and stability of the people of Sierra Leone. His work on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and on the Sub Committee on Africa provides ample evidence of his passion, commitment and deep concern for the people of Sierra Leone. As a measure of his deep seated values as a humanitarian, he has fought hard to break barriers, surmount herculean obstacles and bring hope for prosperity, peace and tranquility to the people of Sierra Leone.


Madieu WilliamsMadieu Williams, National Football League Super Star with the Minnesota Vikings will receive this year’s Special Distinguished Award at the Annual NOSLINA Awards Gala and celebration of Sierra Leone’s 49th Independence Celebrations on Saturday May 8, at 8 PM at the Best Western Lanham Hotel, Lanham, Maryland. Madieu Williams of Sierra Leone is being recognized for numerous accomplishments including $2 million dollars to establish The Madieu Williams Center for Global Health Initiatives at the School of Public Health, University of Maryland College and contributions to youth groups through the Madieu Williams Foundation, and sponsorship of numerous health related symposiums including one on Maternal and Child Health in Sierra Leone in March, 2010.

It is truly remarkable that ten years have rolled by since we met at Howard University in 1998 to establish what was then a unique and well received idea: to come together in large numbers from across the United States and Canada to speak with one voice on matters of the gravest concern to our country and our people. The issues of the day were truly significant: advocating an immediate return to democracy in Sierra Leone, deepening our interconnectedness based on the strengths of the disparate groups represented; marshalling our rich human capital to help facilitate and promote development back home in the areas of health, education, poverty alleviation, civic education and to help build the vital habits and institutions of democracy.
