The NOSLINA Board of Directors announces 2010 Award Recipients PDF Print E-mail

Senator-Russ-FeingoldSenator Russ Feingold (D-WI), will receive the 2010 Special Distinguished NOSLINA Recognition Award for his exceptional and outstanding contribution to the welfare, development, peace and stability of the people of Sierra Leone. His work on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and on the Sub Committee on Africa provides ample evidence of his passion, commitment and deep concern for the people of Sierra Leone. As a measure of his deep seated values as a humanitarian, he has fought hard to break barriers, surmount herculean obstacles and bring hope for prosperity, peace and tranquility to the people of Sierra Leone.


Madieu WilliamsMadieu Williams, National Football League Super Star with the Minnesota Vikings will receive this year’s Special Distinguished Award at the Annual NOSLINA Awards Gala and celebration of Sierra Leone’s 49th Independence Celebrations on Saturday May 8, at 8 PM at the Best Western Lanham Hotel, Lanham, Maryland. Madieu Williams of Sierra Leone is being recognized for numerous accomplishments including $2 million dollars to establish The Madieu Williams Center for Global Health Initiatives at the School of Public Health, University of Maryland College and contributions to youth groups through the Madieu Williams Foundation, and sponsorship of numerous health related symposiums including one on Maternal and Child Health in Sierra Leone in March, 2010.



Mrs. Gemina Archer-Davies will receive the National Diamond Award, NOSLINA’s highest competitive award for outstanding all round contribution to Sierra Leone in the Diaspora. After serving for 30 years with Distinction and honor at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) she recently joined the African Development Bank in Tunis. Gemina Archer Davies is a Diaspora icon who has served in several leadership roles in a variety of Sierra Leone organizations in the United States. Mrs. Gemina Archer-Davies

The Old Makeni Franciscan Alumni Association of North America, the North America Mandingo Association, and the Krio Descendants Union of Texas are the three recipients of this year’s made and continue to make positively impacting their communities and beyond.

Sierra Care, Donald Osman & LEAD Global Organization, and Dr. Gail Kettlewell & the International Center for Education Management of Culture and the Arts at George Mason University will receive this year’s Humanitarian Leadership Awards. This category recognizes substantial efforts made to improve the well being of Sierra Leoneans through charitable contributions in healthcare, education, and poverty relief.

Swami Gyankirti, Sullay Hamid (Pass A Die), and Clifford Sawyer will receive the Entrepreneurial Awards for using their recognized business skills and acumen to help create opportunities for Sierra Leoneans in the Diaspora.

Finally, the NOSLINA Board will give its posthumous award for Leadership to the Late Mrs. Daphne Sawyer Dunn who served the entire Sierra Leone Community through her work with Friends of Sierra Leone playing a major role bringing Sierra Leone to the forefront in meaningful ways throughout her short life.
