A Personal Appeal For Anthony Kamara PDF Print E-mail
Anthony__passportHello Good People,

By now I hope you have heard about the plight of our friend and journalist Anthony Kamara (of the Patriotic Vanguard). I have known Anthony for a few years and have had the pleasure of building a warm relationship with him - a relationship built upon mutual respect and admiration. Anthony's picture is attached to this correspondence.

I knew that Anthony was ill because he mentioned it during our conversations, however he never alluded to the extent of his illness until recently. Although Anthony was not a member of the National Organization of Sierra Leoneans in North America (Noslina) [he always told me that he felt he could best support Noslina by staying truly objective in the reporting of its activities and that the only way to maintain that true objectivity was to remain a non-member of the organization] he has never waned in his support of us. He was the first to report on our going to Freetown to present the FCC with money for dumpsters. He had members of the press lined up to meet with me in person, starting on my day of arrival! He helped orchestrate press conferences, via radio, television, and print; he put the Mayor of Makeni in contact with me. The Mayor even drove from Makeni to meet with me at my home in Congo Town to d iscuss Noslina activities. His reportings led other Mayors/city leaders (Bo, Bonthe, etc.) to contact Noslina about sponsorship opportunities. Anthony has reported on every Noslina Awards ceremony, at least for as long as I have been a member of the organization. Anthony has written feature articles on Noslina Award recipients, our members, and most recently served as one of the facilitators at our Biennial conference. These are some of the things he did for Noslina. Multiply these activities at least 20-fold and you will have a better understanding of the impact that this man has had in our communities (both within and without the United States).

Dear NOSLINA Members:
Chairman Melbourne Garber,  Directorate, and Board Members,
On behalf of the Board and Members of Save Sierra Leone Foundation, with profound gratitude I express our thanks and appreciation to NOSLINA for your generous donation, support, and participation, at Save Sierra Leone Foundation's Fund raising effort on July 9th, 2010 for the International Community College Town Centers Systems in Sierra Leone.
Your presence demonstrated positive leadership, team work, and a commitment to Sierra Leone leaving a legacy for others to emulate.  Your mission of secured education for all Sierra Leoneans was clearly demonstrated by the words of encouragement given by Mr. Tejan Savage.  His statement resonated the desperate need for community college education, a vital source of stability and progress in Sierra Leone.  His clear and concise message feels us all with hope and spurs us on to do more.
We were honored by your presence and we hope you will continue to support our causes.  Save Sierra Leone Foundation believes in the goals and mission of Noslina and we hope to help actualize those goals.   Save Sierra Leone acknowledges your donation and can clearly state that 95% of all proceeds will go to the targeted goal of establishing the initial agriculture and engineering programs, with a 5% stipend for administrative purposes.
Save Sierra Leone Foundation will provide meaningful and periodic updates of the status of the colleges and town centers via the ICCTC newsletter as and when supplied by Dr. Gail Kettlewell. As we continue to "Empower lives, one person at a time using the portals of Education, Health, and Eradicating Poverty, we sincerely hope you will continue to join us in our struggle to restore Sierra Leone to a land of greatness and well being. Please continue to check our websites for current events and news. www.savesierraleonefoundation.org
Sincerely
Patricia Thorpe

GREETINGS FROM SIERRA LEONE
FIRST LADY SIA KOROMA TO THE NOSLINA
SATURDAY, MAY 8, 2010
Unable to personally attend NOSLINA’s 12th Annual Awards Gala and 49th
Sierra Leone Independence Day celebration due to flight delays, Her Excellency Sia
Koroma sent the following message, to be read on her behalf.
Good Evening Ladies and Gentlemen,
It gives me great pleasure to bring greetings to guests, the most
deserving awardees, and most of all, the hard working members of the
National Organization of Sierra Leoneans in North America
(NOSLINA).
NOSLINA, Sierra Leone is aware of you. She is aware of your efforts
and your achievements. In just twelve short years, you have carved for
yourselves and other well-meaning organizations, a clear path – a path,
which when diligently followed and with God’s help – will lead to a
better Sierra Leone.
Your efforts in raising money to provide sound educational, basic
healthcare, and environmentally friendly systems in Sierra Leone is
recognized and appreciated. The four large trash dumpsters that you
recently provided for the city of Freetown – with the NOSLINA name
proudly displayed on them – is but the latest affirmation of your support
and love of beloved Sierra Leone.
I wish you many years of continued success. May your resolve to be an
integral part of moving our country to the level of self-sustainability,
adequate education and healthcare for all people of Sierra Leone never
wane!
And now, it gives me great pleasure to present to you, the 2010
NOSLINA award recipients.

Dear All,

Esther and I made it back to Sacramento at 11:30 PM last night after what was decidedly the best weekend of my journey with NOSLINA. She and I were deeply touched and moved by the warmth, the generosity of spirit and the genuine spirit of celebration of NOSLINA’s accomplishments. Twelve years ago and in my wildest dreams I could never have imagined a NOSLINA of such renown, acclaim and distinction. Our abiding commitment to each other and to the well being of all our people is palpable! Thank you for your individual and collective support and thank you for the privilege to work with you in a leadership role for five short years. Yes, I was thrilled and surprised by the magnanimous gesture of a plaque, my second from NOSLINA; appointment to Emeritus status that confers lifetime status for me on the board; and yes the incomparable festive appearance of PADDLE!!! I owe much to you collectively and a whole lot to Suna and Fanday with whom I worked regularly and tirelessly to have a successful gala. NOSLINA is in good hands and can only go from strength to strength. Thank you for the greatest weekend of my life. I congratulate Melbourne and Minks as well as Suna and Fanday for winning the confidence of the meeting to sojourn on as leaders of this great organization. Finally, please know that I remain committed and loyal to NOSLINA and whenever invited to participate I will do so without let or hindrance. Please accept my highest consideration and appreciation.

Very best always,
Don Taylor
